Oshima Tsumugi (大島紬)

Along with Persian carpets and Gobelin tapestries, Oshima Tsumugi (大島紬) is one of the three greatest textiles in the world.

Oshima Tsumugi is one of Japan’s finest kimono products, and originates from Amami Oshima. The island’s fine-grained mud is a key ingredient that creates the kimono’s deep and luminous black color.

Amami’s mud is also rich in iron, which helps keep the threads durable and strong, so that it can last across several generations.
